If you have an urge to do a little gardening this spring, as it usually does with almost everyone. I have some tips about organic gardening supplies to help you get started. Organic gardening in a more formal term is called Horticulture. Horticulture is based on the knowledge and techniques that have been studied for thousands of years.
Before you actually go out and start purchasing seeds and plants for your garden, you should first think of what type of garden you want to have; whether it is a flower garden or a garden for growing some of your favorite types of food. Next, you need to figure out how much room you will have for your garden. If it is to be an outside garden, not a terrace garden, you will need a small tiller, and a pair of gloves. You will need to break the ground with the tiller. Then you will want to take a garden fork, (a potato fork), and pull out all the roots and grass.
Now you will need to treat the soil with a good blend of fertilizer, to help add certain minerals back into the ground that will help your new plants grow, such as Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. 4-6-6 is a good fertilizer to use. The numbers are the amounts of each nutrient that is in the mixture. Many people like to use composite or Manure into the soil before they place their plants into the rows. Work your fertilizer into the soil, making sure it is not all piled into one spot.
Once you have placed your plants, you will want to water them. A little watering everyday with a hose or a sprinkler system this will give them just enough water to keep them in good shape, and allow the roots to set. Water the plants for at least 15 to 20 minutes at a time, every other day. Once a week you should spray all your plants with a good overall insect spray. Check at your local garden center to find out what insects you need to treat your plants for in your area. Many people prefer to use a dust type of insecticide instead of a spray; however, that is up to each individual.
After your plants have matured enough you can now lower your watering time, and use a hoe to chop down any unwanted grass or weeds, and you can also purchase some week killer to help control weeds, make sure the type of weed killer will not harm the plants that you are going to put it around.
As time passes and your plants begin to produce blooms you will want to aerate your plants by using a hoe or an aerating tool with spikes on it. Aerating your garden helps the water and air as well as the fertilizer and other nutrients to reach the plants roots, by keeping the soil next to the plants loose.
I hope that these tips will help you in your organic gardening supplies will help you get your garden going and you have a fantastic looking and productive garden.
